SHR Laser Hair Removal is a safe, effective, and commonly used treatment, providing optimal results in the removal of unwanted hair. Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being targeted, while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. Our lasers feature a patented skin-cooling device for even greater clients comfort and safety and better results.

Who can have Laser Hair Removal treatment?

We can treat Women and Men of all ages. Children under 18 will require a presence of a parent or guardian on the first consultation or a signed written consent from their parent or guardian. The Central Coast Laser Clinic therapists do sometimes need to refer clients to their General Medical Practitioner for assessment and when in doubt will not treat until a Medical Clearance is provided.

Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?

Hair reduction is assured. Clients can achieve anywhere from 80% to 90% hair reduction. These results will be influenced by certain conditions such as skin, hair colour and hormones. We advise 2 to 3 Maintenance visits a year. As with all Laser therapy treatments, the frequency and number of treatments will depend on your skin type, the area affected and the size of that area.

Unlike other salons/clinic’s, at Cilyca Aesthetics we can treat all skin colours from fair to dark and all types of hair colours including white, grey, fair, blonde and red. With our technology gone are the days of “The lighter the skin and the darker the hair” Our technology is able to treat all people safely and effectively.

Is Laser Hair Removal treatment safe?

Yes, laser treatments have been used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures. At Central Coast Laser Clinic we only use the latest medical grade technology.

How long will my treatment take, and how many treatments will I need?

Every SHR Laser Hair Removal treatment, like every client, is unique. Individual treatments will vary according to skin and hair colour, to be expected. On average, we recommend 6-10 treatments. Some clients may require additional treatments, depending on the individual. Treatments should be repeated every 6 weeks for the body and 4 weeks for the face depending on the hair growth rate. There is no need for long hair.

What precautions should I take before or after my treatment?

Unlike waxing, there is no need for long hair. Hair must be short for your laser treatment, about 2-3 days hair growth, 3mm max. Shave or trim the hair before your laser hair removal treatment.

Shorter hair ensures the treatment is more comfortable for you and allows the laser energy to travel down to the follicle faster. Avoid sun exposure on the area for 2 to 3 weeks before treatment, and 1 to 2 weeks after treatment. You can use Spray Tan 24 hours after the treatment. We recommend wearing a 30+ SPF sun screen even for casual (routine) exposure to the sun.

Are there any adverse side-effects to laser treatments?

A small percentage of persons treated may experience side effects (unwanted outcomes); these side effects are usually temporary and mild, though can be more severe and longer term.

They include: Blistering and possible scarring may occur with all skin types and especially if the required precautions (relating to sun exposure and some medicines) are not followed, before, during and after treatment.

Hyper-pigmentation (darker skin) can occur because of inflammation caused by laser treatment and a brown mark arises that usually takes some months to fade with the assistance of lightening agents.

Hypo-pigmentation (lighter skin): laser treatment can cause a loss of skin pigmentation in the treated area. This pigmentation usually returns but can take up to 12 months and in very rare cases can take so long that is considered permanent.

Bacterial or viral infection. Any infection in a wound created by a laser has the potential for scarring and laser treatments have been known to trigger herpes simplex outbreaks. In general, most procedures have a low risk of adverse side effects. Some clients do experience a slight pigment change in their skin colour. If this occurs, the skin typically returns to normal pigmentation in a few weeks. You may apply Vitamin E cream to the treated areas; it will help the fading process. All treatment results are individual.

Is it painful?

NO At Cilyca Aesthetics, the SHR Technology laser machine we use have a dynamic cooling device. This cools the skin, making the treatment very comfortable Individual pain experience can vary.

Should I be receiving Laser Hair Removal treatment if I am on medication?

There are certain medications that can affect the treatment. The most common are Roaccutane and Retin A. We are unable to treat client’s until they have been off Roaccutane and Retin – A for 12 months. Any one taking or have taken medications in the last 6 months that make the skin light sensitive we are unable to treat. It is better to be safe than sorry.

How Does SHR Hair Reduction Work?

With SHR, low intensity light in rapidly firing sequences deliver heat to the hair bulbs. The heat is low enough not to cause pain but just enough to destroy the the hair bulbs in the hair follicle. With SHR, we can achieve painless permanent hair removal and this method can be used on all skin types.

Permanent hair reduction is all about destroying hair follicles selectively while preserving the surrounding skin. The theory behind permanent hair removal is that the hair follicles’ structures being darker (more pigmented) than the surrounding skin, will absorb more light or laser energy than the surrounding skin. Heat therefore builds up faster at the hair follicles than the surrounding skin. As such we are able to “selectively” destroy unwanted hair.

Hair reduction with SHR technology will typically need several sessions. The reason for this lies in the hair’s growth cycle. About one third of all the hairs in the skin are in the growing phase. The other two thirds are either “sleeping” or in between growing and sleeping. All technology, can zap only hairs in the growing phase. So each time when we do a hair removal treatment, we are only able to zap an average of 20% of the hairs that are growing.

In theory, once the hair follicle is destroyed, it will never grow again. In real life some of the cells in the skin can regenerate hair follicles that have been destroyed by SHR. So, over time, even after the best hair removal treatment, some fine hairs regenerate. But we are talking about months or years later. So some clinics have preferred to call hair removal – hair reduction – in order not to give the patients too unrealistic an expectation. But whether it is reduction or removal, we are talking about the same thing – 80% to 90% reduction that may need touch ups yearly.
